Embed Google Maps on your website: how it works
By M. Moes · Published on 22 October 2026
Adding a Google Maps map to your website is quick: you copy an embed code from Google Maps and paste it into your site. For showing where your accommodation is, that works well. If you want to show the local area, you run into two things: the map also shows other accommodations, and you have to keep the tips up to date yourself.
How to embed Google Maps on your website
- Look up your location in Google Maps.
- Choose Share and open the Embed a map tab.
- Copy the HTML code Google shows. It is an iframe.
- Paste that code into the HTML of the page where the map should appear. Most website builders have a block for custom HTML.
The buttons in Google Maps may look different from what is described here. In that case, follow the instructions in Google's own help pages.
What such a map cannot do
The map also shows the other hotels, campsites and B&Bs nearby, with photos and reviews. A guest who is looking at your page and clicks on one is now on a competitor's page. You cannot switch that off, because Google decides what appears on the map.
The map is also not a tips guide. If you want to show restaurants, walking routes or days out, you have to add them yourself and keep them current. When a restaurant closes, it is still on your map.
A map that only shows the local area
A local area widget shows what guests look for: food, nature, culture and shops. With NearPin, other accommodations are never visible. You add the widget with one script tag and block places you do not want to show. You can try it free for 14 days.
