Frequently asked questions
Everything about NearPin
Answers to the questions we get asked most about NearPin, the widget and using it on your website.
What is NearPin?
NearPin is a map you add to your own website with one line of code. Visitors see the restaurants, walks, sights, shops and practical addresses around your location. We find those places, check them and keep them up to date.
Which businesses is NearPin for?
For places where people stay or spend a day: hotels, B&Bs, campsites, holiday parks, wedding venues, spas, conference centres and theatres. In short, anywhere guests ask what there is to do nearby.
What exactly do my guests see?
A map with tabs by type (food and drink, nature, culture, shopping, practical) and a distance button: 1, 5, 10 or 15 kilometres. Tap a place and your guest gets a short description, the website and a directions button that opens their own map app.
Where do the places come from?
From public map data, supplemented with publicly available information about the place itself. NearPin checks that data before it appears in a widget, and keeps checking whether a place still exists.
Do I have to maintain the places myself?
No, that is rather the point. If a restaurant closes or a museum moves, your map follows automatically. You only choose which categories your guests get to see.
Is NearPin a booking system?
No. NearPin shows the surroundings. If your guest wants to reserve somewhere, they do that with the place itself; bookings and payments do not run through NearPin.
How do I add NearPin to my website?
You copy one line of code from your dashboard and paste it where the map should appear. That works on WordPress, on a custom-built site and on most other systems. No separate app or integration is needed.
What does NearPin cost?
You pay per activated widget, monthly. Current amounts are on the pricing page, always excluding VAT.
Can I try it first?
Yes. Your first widget starts with a free 14-day trial, live and complete. You only pay once you activate it; your first payment is for a full month. A further widget is not free: it goes live from the day you activate it.
Why does the widget say “Powered by NearPin”?
During the free trial and in a sample map, a small link to NearPin appears at the bottom of the widget. Once you pay and the widget is activated, the link is gone.
Can I use several widgets?
Yes. One widget belongs to one location, because every site has its own surroundings. You create them under the same account and only pay for the widgets you activate.
How do I cancel?
You switch the widget off in your dashboard. It keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for; after that it stops by itself and nothing more is charged. There is no refund for the remainder of the period.
What is the QR code?
Every active widget comes with a print-ready QR code for the front desk or the room. Your guest scans it and gets the same map on their own phone, with no app and no login.
Which languages does the widget support?
Dutch, English, German and French. You set the default language; your guest can switch and the widget remembers that choice on their own device.
What data does NearPin use?
The widget sets no tracking cookies and stores no personal data about your visitors. We count anonymously how often the widget is shown and clicked, without knowing who did it. So it needs no extra cookie notice.
Can someone else take over my widget?
No. When configuring, you state which domain may run the widget. Loaded from any other domain, nothing appears.
