How it works

From widget to surroundings on your website

Three steps, no technical knowledge required, and after that there is nothing left for you to do. Below is what happens in each step and what keeps running by itself afterwards.

How it works

1

Create a widget

In your dashboard you create a widget and enter the address of your location. You pick the radius (1, 5, 10 or 15 kilometres), the categories guests may see, the default language and the size of the map. Straight afterwards the area is filled with the places that belong to it. You enter nothing.

2

Activate it

Your first widget starts with a free 14-day trial, complete and live. Happy with it? Then you activate: fill in your billing details and pay monthly by automatic debit. Your first payment is for a full month; after that you pay every month on that same day. A further widget is not free: it goes live from the moment you activate it.

3

Add the embed code

You copy one line of code from your dashboard and paste it where the map should appear. You also download the print-ready QR code for the front desk. Only the domain you list may load the widget, so nobody else can take it over.

What happens once the widget is live?

Your visitors explore the area

On your own website visitors see the places around your location: food and drink, nature, culture, shopping and practical stops. They tap a place for a short description, its website and a directions button that opens their own map app.

We keep the data current

NearPin regularly checks whether the places shown still exist and updates name, address and opening hours. If a restaurant closes it disappears from your map without you lifting a finger. And if a visitor spots something wrong, they can report it.

The QR code works alongside the website

The same map lives on its own mobile page behind the QR code. Your guest scans it at the desk or in the room and has the area on their phone, no app, no login, no account.

Frequently asked questions about how it works

Do I need technical knowledge?
No. You configure the widget in your dashboard and then paste one line of code on your website. With a custom-built site, your web developer can do it in a couple of minutes.
What is an embed code?
An embed code is a small piece of code that shows something from elsewhere on your page, like a YouTube video or a route map. NearPin hands you that code ready to use for your widget.
Is NearPin a booking system?
No. NearPin shows the surroundings. If your guest wants a table at a restaurant, they book with that restaurant; bookings and payments do not run through NearPin.
Where do the places come from?
From public map data, supplemented with publicly available information about the place itself. NearPin then checks the data before it appears in a widget.
Will it slow my website down?
The widget is a separate file that loads alongside your page, not inside it. Nothing else about your website changes.
Can someone else put my widget on their site?
No. When configuring, you state which domain may run the widget. Load it from any other domain and nothing appears.
